Tell me what you thought of the speech, what the main points of the speech were and why you think the author wrote it. Be sure to include a comment about whether or not this relates to courage based on the Hemingway definition of courage or how this fits into the theme of resilience.

HINTS: FYI…for the response part of the speaker worksheet on the back of the sheet… think about the speaker’s mood, the way the speaker spoke and the words they chose. Some questions to consider are: Was he/she easy to hear? Were the words pronounced well? Was the voice monotone or varied? Was the attitude of the speaker obvious? What do you think the speaker’s goal was in giving the speech? What are your feelings after hearing the speech? Would this be a person you would like to hear in person? Why/why not? Explain why you chose to listen to this particular person's speech.

Once you have viewed the power point twice, make a list of stereotypes that you feel are represented in the slides. The stereotypes can be positive or negative.
Choose one slide and give a response to the slide in your LAF. Be sure to mention which slide you are responding to and what moved you about the slide.

Here are the poetry websites. There are a number of poems, each read by a person who really related to the poem in some way. Listen to and read each at least twice to really hear the voice of the reader and the tone of the poem.

Please listen to at least 6 of the 13 and respond in your reading log to each. For each poem, for your response in your RL, look for the following literary elements in each poem. List examples of each term and tell what poem each example came from.Her are the terms: Alliteration, rhyme, simile, metaphor, symbol, figurative language and onomotopia.

Assignments for the end of quarter 1:

Bring in standard 22x28 inch Poster board for creative assessment activity
We will measure and create the cubes in class
Using the literary elements from movie "The Gift of Love"and the cube rubric, create rough drafts of the text for all 6 sides of the cube.
Edit your rough drafts and generate final versions
We will attach the final copies of the text to the cube in class
Be sure to fill out the self evaluation portion of the rubric before turning it in

For those reading Holes: You should complete the reading of Holes by Wed 10/31 and The Shovel assessments are due Friday 11/2. Remember to think of this as your test and put test like effort into the answers you give. Each shovel should have at least 2 examples of conflicts, each one should be explained in a sentence or two. In the choices shovel, you should list 7-10 choices made in the novel and briefly explain how each affected the story.
